Utility-room sensors: test the connection before buying a multi-pack
A useful sensor kit needs a working path from the final utility-room location to its controller and alert recipient. Test one representative position before scaling the purchase, particularly around metal cabinets, thick walls and equipment that restricts convenient placement.

Use the finished position
Do the trial with doors and cabinets closed as they will normally be used. A temporary bench setup beside the hub can prove pairing, but it does not show whether the installation position will produce reliable everyday communication.
Match the radio branch
Check whether the chosen sensor uses a manufacturer hub, Thread or another path. Moving a Wi-Fi access point is not automatically the answer to a weak sensor link when the sensor is using a different radio technology.
Quote the coverage work
Ask for one tested utility point and the necessary controller placement before ordering the remaining sensors. This separates genuine coverage needs from an unnecessary second kit or a collection of unrelated repeaters.
Before you buy
- Test with doors closed
- Identify the sensor radio
- Record final controller placement
