Lights go out while you read? Buy the right sensing approach
A person crossing a room and a person sitting quietly are different sensing problems. Before adding more motion sensors, decide which occupied positions should keep the lighting scene active and which actions should still require a button.

Describe the missed activity
Record whether the problem happens on the sofa, at a desk or behind furniture. More sensors of the same kind may not improve a poorly chosen detection approach, especially when their view of the seated area is blocked.
Compare presence with motion
A presence-sensing option such as FP2 deserves a placement review for quiet activities. Review the exact room and supported automation path rather than treating presence detection as a promise to identify every person in every position.
Keep the light under control
Ask for a reading scene with a manual hold or a generous, tested off-delay. A useful demonstration includes several minutes of quiet reading, not just walking past the sensor once and seeing the light turn on.
Before you buy
- Mark seated positions
- Check blocked sightlines
- Test the off-delay
