Zigbee or Thread Sensors: Choose the Network Already in Your Home
The better sensor is often the one that fits a supported network you already own. Treat a protocol change as a system decision, not an automatic upgrade.

Look at the controller first
Identify the exact hub or controller and its supported device list. A Zigbee device does not join a Thread network, and similar-looking sensors can therefore need different supporting equipment.
Check the Thread requirements
For a Matter-over-Thread sensor such as P2, confirm both a suitable Matter controller and Thread border router. An ordinary Wi-Fi router does not automatically provide those two functions.
Compare the complete starting cost
Put one sensor and its required infrastructure on each shortlist. For a planned larger installation, also compare supported accessories and who will maintain that particular network later.
