No-Hub Smart Devices: Count the Network and App Work Too
Direct network devices can make a small purchase feel simple. Before repeating that choice across the house, count setup, coverage and everyday control alongside the hardware price.

Small can stay simple
A few lamps on suitable Wi-Fi plugs may need little extra infrastructure. Start with the actual number of endpoints and the network available in their final locations, not a theoretical maximum.
One app is a separate choice
Ask which platform will provide daily control and how each device joins it. A product being hub-free in its own app does not prove that every other ecosystem needs no supporting controller.
Keep network administration manageable
For larger purchases, include onboarding, account ownership and router coverage in the proposal. Saving a box is worthwhile only if the resulting installation remains easy for the household to operate.
