Patio-door reminders: choose the protected side of the opening
A patio-door sensor purchase starts with the frame and exposure, not just the door width. Find a protected, correctly rated position where the sensor can remain aligned through normal opening and closing, then choose the control path.

Check sliding travel
Show both the fully closed and open positions. Handles, screens and overlapping panels can restrict where a contact pair fits; temporary placement is useful before committing to a permanent fixing method or buying several sensors.
Set a sensible reminder
Decide whether the aim is a prolonged-open reminder or a status check before leaving. A sensor’s closed report should not be presented as confirmation of a lock, latch or the suitability of opening a door during severe weather.
Request frame-based quantities
Ask for a proposal showing one sensor location per independently moving opening where needed. This avoids buying by the number of glass panels when several panels form one door or only one panel moves.
Before you buy
- Photograph full door travel
- Check the protected mounting side
- Count moving openings
