A controller backup needs an owner and a restore plan

A backup file is not a complete recovery arrangement. Before handing over an installed controller, agree where approved backups are kept, who may access them and how a supported restore would be performed for this particular project.

Choose the supported process

Use the controller platform’s current documentation. Home Assistant, for example, explains backup and restore workflows. Keep sensitive recovery material secure and avoid assuming that a file from a different system version or hardware arrangement can be restored without review.

Explain what the backup covers

Separate configuration from external accounts, physical device placement and any items not included in the supported backup. The resident should understand what a recovery can reasonably restore and what still requires local work or separate access.

Make it part of handover

Add recovery ownership to the project record and discuss technical support needs with HomeTech before completion. A clear procedure is more useful than reassuring the customer that the installer has “a copy somewhere” indefinitely.
