Indoor Camera or Presence Sensor for an Automated Living Room?
If the goal is keeping lights comfortable while someone sits still, begin with presence sensing. Buy a camera when viewing or recorded evidence is genuinely part of the requirement.

Separate the two jobs
Knowing that a room is occupied and seeing what happened inside it are different needs. Describe the desired automation without assuming that video is a necessary part of achieving it.
Discuss the household boundary
For a camera, agree on the field of view, viewers and storage. For a presence sensor, ask how its detection regions will be placed around seating, doors and moving curtains.
Pair with physical controls
Whichever sensing path you choose, retain an obvious wall control for the room’s lights. The attractive experience is reliable assistance with an easy override, rather than dependence on an app.
