Before Replacing a Smart-Home Hub, Ask About Backup and Migration
A replacement hub is a project change, not just a new box. Choose a migration plan that preserves access, records what must be paired again and leaves a workable recovery path.

Inventory what already works
Write down the current devices, rules and account owner. Include any family-critical scenes before discussing new features, so the upgrade does not accidentally remove the functions people already rely on.
Price the migration work
Ask which integrations can be restored and which devices need fresh pairing. Physical access to hidden modules or high-mounted sensors can make labor more important than the hub’s shelf price.
Leave a recovery route
Request a verified backup where the platform supports it and a staged switchover. Decide who will support the old and new systems during transition before ordering replacement equipment.
