Night lighting for an older resident: test it at their pace
Choose night lighting around the resident’s route and preferred brightness. A successful purchase is easy to override and comfortable in ordinary use; it should not be described as preventing falls or replacing personal assistance, clinical advice or building improvements.

Walk together before choosing
Mark bedside reach, turns and the bathroom entrance with the resident. Ask whether light changes feel welcome and where a manual switch should remain, rather than inferring needs from an age label or a generic room diagram.
Avoid sudden changes
Try a low-light setting from the bed and along the return route. Set the off-delay around actual pauses and slower movement where relevant, retaining manual control instead of expecting a motion sensor to interpret every situation.
Quote the route as a whole
Send a simple plan and request light positions, suitable sensing and a clearly labeled override together. Evaluate that complete route before adding unrelated monitoring features to the home.
