A rear-door reminder does not require a new lock

If the rear door’s existing lock works well, a door-state sensor may solve the actual question with less disruption. Keep open/closed status separate from lock status and choose a clear reminder rather than replacing hardware unnecessarily.

Know the rear door's reported state

Define the missing information

Decide whether you want to notice an open door after bedtime, review status before leaving or receive a specific alert. These are different notification choices, so the smallest useful purchase starts with the actual household habit.

Check mounting and exposure

Assess the door frame, magnet alignment and protected mounting location. A general indoor sensor should not be placed in an unsuitable exposed area, and a metal or unusually shaped frame may need a different fixing plan.

Quote the reminder path

Request the sensor, required hub and chosen reminder as one small package. Keep a manual physical check in the household routine; a reported closed state is not confirmation that the mechanical lock has been secured.

Before you buy

  • Choose the reminder window
  • Photograph sensor surfaces
  • Distinguish closed from locked
