Know the kitchen door opened without adding a camera

If the goal is a simple door-state reminder, a contact-sensor route may be more appropriate than video. It gives a narrower function and avoids buying recording features that do not help the particular household question.

Know the rear door's reported state

Decide what the reminder means

A reported open state is not proof of who used the door or whether it is mechanically locked. Decide whether you want a local chime, a phone notification or a checkable status before selecting devices.

Check the real mounting point

Make sure the sensor’s environmental rating suits the protected position. Door trim, metal surfaces and magnet alignment can change the mounting plan, so a photo of the actual frame is more useful than a generic doorway measurement.

Build one clear reminder

Ask for the sensor, required hub and chosen notification method as one quote. Agree a useful time window so ordinary family movement does not produce a stream of messages that everyone learns to ignore.

Before you buy

  • Define state versus identity
  • Photograph the door frame
  • Choose notification hours
