Buying a Smart Lock? Measure the Door Before Choosing the App
A lock that fits your phone but not your door is an expensive detour. Start with the deadbolt opening, then choose how the household will enter.

Three measurements worth sending
Photograph the door edge, measure thickness and backset, and show the inside clearance. Existing trim and a nearby second lock can matter more than the exterior finish.
A quiet latch is the starting point
Close the door without lifting or pulling it. If the latch already binds, correct the alignment before expecting a motorized deadbolt to make daily entry feel effortless.
Buy the entry experience
Compare keypad, fingerprint, phone access and mechanical backup for the actual residents. Ask for the complete lock-and-hub list if remote management is part of your requirement.
