A full replacement gives you a coordinated entry set; an interior retrofit can preserve a door appearance you already like. The existing lock mechanism decides whether retrofit is sensible.
When replacement is cleaner
Choose a replacement approach when the old hardware is worn, the finish no longer suits the door, or a built-in exterior keypad is central to the purchase.
When retrofit earns a look
For a door with a good existing cylinder and coordinated exterior handles, request a retrofit fit assessment. An interior motor still needs clearance and the right turning mechanism.
Price the complete access path
Include any separate keypad, bridge and installation accessories in the comparison. A small motor-only price does not describe what a guest will actually use at the doorstep.
