Whole-Home Smart Lighting: Count Circuits, Not Rooms
A room may contain several independent lighting circuits, while one switch group can serve a larger area. Build the shopping list from the electrical and control layout rather than a room count alone.

Map each controlled group
Mark the lights that should move together, their current switches and any multi-location control. This map reveals where one smart control is enough and where additional circuits need separate hardware.
Separate dimming from switching
Not every circuit needs dimming or color. Classify ordinary switching, suitable dimming and specialist loads before selecting a common wall style or asking for a whole-home equipment quantity.
Pilot the repeated combination
Use one representative circuit to verify load behavior and the family’s physical-control preference. Then expand with an itemized circuit schedule, retaining the tested lamp and device model numbers.
