Buying an Aqara P2 Contact Sensor? Check the Border Router First
P2 is a Matter-over-Thread contact sensor. The useful first purchase check is whether your intended platform already has the required Matter controller and Thread border-router functions.
Identify the actual hub
Use the exact model and generation of the household’s smart-home controller. A Wi-Fi network or a generic smart speaker does not prove that the needed Thread and Matter roles are available.
Check the opening
Photograph the frame and moving panel, including the closed gap and mounting surfaces. A correct protocol choice still needs a physical installation that reliably reports the state of that particular opening.
Buy for a clear action
Decide whether you need a simple open-state view, a reminder or a supported lighting rule. Confirm that desired function in the chosen ecosystem before multiplying the sensor across every window.
